In his urgency to get his health care "reforms' passed before Congress recesses, President Obama has pushed that urgency with phrases like 'last chance', 'now or never', 'once in a life time',' before August', 'before recess', and many other panic laden urgings. Where is the fire!
Here is the fire! President Obama is aware that campaigning by members of Congress for the next Congressional elections in 2010 begins during the recess. He clearly fears the loss of his current super majority, veto proof, filibuster proof, support in Congress. In other words, he thinks the voters will rebel against the excesses of his first two years and vote out his Congressional support foundations, rendering him a lame duck with two years remaining. His express train to the accomplishment of his extreme visions for remaking America will be derailed this August.
If, as he states, the American people are on board with his agenda and policies, then why does he fear August so much? It's because he fears the loss of many seats in Congress. Why? Because he knows many of his former supporters in the voting public who gave him his initial election and majority in Congress, are going to jump ship. If he truly thought we were on board, then why the rush?
Why the defections? President Obama was not elected, so much as George Bush was un-elected. Obama said little to nothing about his true plans for change other than 'do you want four more years of George Bush?'. The votes that got him elected were moderates who simply had too much 'Bush-itis' oversaturation, and rode the "Hope and Change" wave to the polling stations.
Do you really believe those moderates would have voted for him had he actually articulated his policies and intentions prior to his election? 33 Czars? Bank and company takeovers? Pre-planned, multi-trillion dollar debts? Business suffocation? Stimulus billions? Massive tax increases for all of us (not just the rich) thru 'cap and trade', and health policy tax increases? Did you hear ANY of that during the 'hope and change' charge? It's been too much, too fast, too extreme, and too misleading for many Americans who are not on board ... and never would have been had they not been misled.
This has been a once-in-a-century dream situation for the extreme left, who have never before had the stars line up in such a way as to steamroll their dream agenda. (Alas, a perfect storm for the rest of us). Obama's agenda was not emergency based. It was pre-planned and true intentions were hidden during the campaign. Do you really believe the A.R.R.A (the stimulus) package was written in three weeks as a response to a national emergency crisis? Have you read it? Any given paragraph would have taken years to write given it's need to pass political, economic, and legal muster. Years! Yes, it was pre-planned.
Obama clearly does not believe Americans are on board for his health care (takeover) reform. If really he believed we were, then he would also believe we would supportive after the August Congressional recess as well and there would be no rush or "once in a lifetime" urgency to pass the legislation by August. He doesn't believe we are and is trying to get it passed against the will of the voters.
Campaigning for seats in Congress begins in August. Only a change in the current majority can bring us back to some semblance of sanity. Pick up the phone and change it.
